Online Voting Now Open & More Ways to Get Involved

SARASOTA, FLA. — Twenty bands have entered the 2016 Rock for a Cause, and online voting is NOW OPEN!

Through Oct. 7, the public can view and vote for their favorite bands. The top six acts that get the most online votes will compete live during the Rock for a Cause battle of the bands on Nov. 12, 2-9 p.m. on Main Street in Downtown Sarasota.

“We’re so excited to see this event grow year over year with even more band submissions,” says Shauna Malgieri, chair of the Rock for a Cause executive committee. “We’ve got such a vast range of ages and genres — everything from indie folk singers and hip hop artists to operatic solo acts and in-your-face rockers. The public has the tough job of whittling down this impressive group talented musicians.”

To learn more about the bands and cast a vote, go to SRQRocks.org/vote. We’ve included band bios, photos and two songs from each act. Only one vote per viable email address will be permitted.

Get Ready Bands! You Have 2 Weeks Before Submissions Start

That’s right! It’s almost time for musicians who want to compete in this year’s Rock for a Cause to upload their songs at SRQRocks.org. We’ll be accepting two song submissions from each competing act between Aug. 1 and Sept. 18.

All ages and genres are welcome! Solo acts, duets and bands can enter. You will need to submit either audio or video files of the two songs of your choosing.

Once submissions are closed, online voting will begin for the top six acts. The public will vote online for their favorite bands from Sept. 19 through Oct. 7. The six bands with the most online votes will perform live at Rock for a Cause on Nov. 12, 2016 in Downtown Sarasota. Live and online voting will take place that night to determine the overall winner!

The winning band will receive $1,500 cash and will also be the closing act for the event.

S-One Announces New Rock for a Cause Partnership with Del Couch

S-One Holdings Corporation is pleased to announce its new Rock for a Cause partner: The Del Couch Music Education Foundation. S-One and the Foundation will co-present the 2016 Rock for a Cause battle-of-the-bands event to be held this Fall.

S-One has spearheaded Rock for a Cause for the past two years, celebrating the community and its local musicians. In year one, rockers Seven Years Past took the title and donated funds to Riverview High School. Last year, 15-year-old sensation Paige Merriman won the title, with donations going to Lakewood Ranch High School and the Del Couch Music Education Foundation, where she is mentored by Del, has recorded a CD and performed with the Foundation’s other talented musicians, such as 2014 American Idol contestant Sam Woolf, and iTunes chart-topping singer-songwriter Matt Walden. Each year, the winning schools also received additional grant money from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County.

“Being a part of the Del Couch Music Education Foundation and having the honor of winning such a respectable title has really put things into perspective for me,” Paige says. “Rock for a Cause showed me that I am, in fact, capable of much more than I thought. I can’t thank everyone enough who’s supported me and continues to do so.”

During the Foundation’s annual fundraiser, Heart of the Song, on March 19, 2016, S-One announced the new partnership. Funds raised through the 2016 Rock for a Cause event will be allocated to sending Foundation students to the Berklee College of Music Summer Internship program. The Heart of the Song featured performances by Sam Woolf, Matt Walden, Paige Merriman and One Night Rodeo.

“I’m excited to partner with a great community leader like S-One,” says Del Couch, founder of the Del Couch Music Education Foundation. “For these kids, spending a summer at Berklee’s program gives them exposure to the best music instructors at the leading music university in the world.”

Stay tuned to Rock for a Cause’s web page and Facebook page for updates on sponsorship opportunities, band submissions and event details.

“Our No. 1 goal with Rock for a Cause is to give back to the community in a fun and meaningful way, specifically ensuring that kids have access to music and arts programs – and Del’s Foundation is a great avenue to do just that,” says S-One’s Shauna Malgieri, head of the Rock for a Cause Executive Committee. “This event captures S-One’s family spirit while bringing together local musicians with some good, old-fashioned competition. We’re definitely ready to rock this year! Are you?”
